Court Stops INEC’s “Illegal Timetable” : Rule of Law Has Prevailed Today’s judgement by the Federal High Court in Abuja is a major victory for constitutional democracy, the rule of law and the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process. For weeks, many Nigerians watched with concern as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) attempted to impose a hurried and restrictive timetable on political parties ahead of the 2027 elections ,a move widely viewed as inconsistent with the Electoral Act, 2026. While many kept silent, a few courageous voices spoke out. Among them,I consistently warned that no institution, no matter how powerful, is above the law. In a landmark decision delivered by Hon. Justice M. G. Umar in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/517/2026 between the Youth Party and INEC, the court reportedly held that INEC lacked the statutory authority to impose restrictive timelines for party primaries and other pre-election activities outside the provisions of the Electoral Act. The court further ruled that INEC cannot abridge statutory timelines relating to submission of candidates’ particulars, withdrawal and substitution of candidates, publication of final lists and campaign periods. The ruling was a vindication of the position I and other concerned Nigerians had maintained over the past two months. I have consistently argued that INEC must act within the confines of the Electoral Act. Unfortunately, those warnings were ignored. This judgement has now vindicated that position. I praiseJustice M.G. Umar for a courageous and principled judgement that reaffirmed constitutional order and restored public confidence in democratic institutions. This decision is not just about election dates or political parties. It is about protecting democracy from arbitrariness and ensuring that institutions operate strictly within the limits of the law. Nigeria’s democracy grows stronger when the rule of law prevails over administrative convenience. #DemocraticRenewal #RuleofLaw.

ON THE ABDUCTION OF SCHOOL CHILDREN IN BORNO STATE I am deeply saddened and outraged by the reported abduction of dozens of school children from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. This attack is not only a crime against innocent children and their families, it is an assault on the future of Nigeria itself. Schools should never become battlefields, and children should never become instruments of terror. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the affected families and communities, and I urge the Federal Government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to deploy every available resource toward the immediate rescue of these children and the protection of surrounding communities. What has happened again in Borno State reinforces a painful reality: terrorist and insurgent groups continue to exploit ungoverned spaces, weak rural security architecture, poverty, and social dislocation to sustain violence and fear. Just yesterday, I welcomed the reported elimination of ISIS commander Abu Bilal al-Minuki through joint international cooperation involving Nigerian and United States forces. While such operations are necessary and commendable, this latest tragedy reminds us that counter-terrorism cannot succeed through tactical victories alone. Nigeria requires a comprehensive and sustained national security doctrine that combines military pressure with intelligence coordination, border control, rural security expansion, education, economic opportunity, and the restoration of state presence in vulnerable communities. The international community must also recognise that the crisis in Northern Nigeria is not merely a domestic security challenge. The continued expansion of terrorist activity across fragile regions threatens wider regional stability in West and Central Africa. For too long, attacks on Nigerian communities have failed to generate the level of sustained global urgency they deserve. The world must not become desensitised to the kidnapping of African children. We must act with unity, seriousness, and resolve. No nation can build a stable future while fear governs its classrooms and terrorists dictate life in its rural communities. #borno #northernnigeria #insecurity #nigeria #africanchildren

ISIS Commander Eliminated: Why Nigeria Must Deepen the Fight Against Terror This weekend, the world woke up to the news of the elimination of the second-in-command of ISIS in Nigeria, Abu Bilal Minuki, in a joint operation involving the United States and the Nigerian Armed Forces. This development once again highlights the importance and effectiveness of genuine international cooperation in the fight against global terrorism. For over five years, we have consistently called for this level of collaboration. We also warned early that terrorist elements operating in Nigeria were driven by the ambition to establish an ISIS-style enclave in parts of Northern Nigeria. Recent events have validated those concerns. While this operation represents a significant tactical success, Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy must go beyond the periodic elimination of terror leaders. In many instances, such victories are followed by retaliatory attacks on vulnerable rural communities, leaving innocent citizens to bear the consequences. Our national response must therefore be deeper, coordinated, and focused on addressing both the security threats and the root causes that sustain terrorism. It is a tragic reality that more than 18,000 Nigerians have lost their lives to insecurity in the last three years alone. We must also confront the conditions that allow extremism to thrive. Extreme poverty, social dislocation, unemployment, and mass illiteracy continue to create fertile ground for terrorist recruitment. A region that hosts a significant proportion of Nigeria’s over 18 million out-of-school children will inevitably remain vulnerable to extremist recruitment.. Ultimately, an effective counter-terrorism programme requires a government that is patriotic, decisive, proactive, and fully committed to the national interest , not one that acts only under pressure or in reaction to crises. Nigeria must act firmly, comprehensively, and with clarity of purpose. The security, stability, and future of our nation depend on it. Cc: @POTUS , @tedcruz, @marcorubio
