I talk about video games, and wear a stack of hats. Check out my YouTube channel! I cover lots of retro SEGA/Nintendo games and hardware, among other things.
Hi, I’m Hat Stack Mike! I talk about video games, new and old, and wear a stack of hats.
Series I like include:
Sonic
Zelda
Smash Bros.
Street Fighter
Mario
Donkey Kong
Ace Attorney
Mortal Kombat
Banjo-Kazooie
WarioWare
Kirby
NiGHTS
Puyo Puyo
and a LOT more.
Let’s be friends!
Sonic Spinball has such a unique vibe to it that we never really see again in the series. Its visuals and soundtrack come together to create such a grungy feeling that I really like. It may not be the best Sonic game ever made, but I’ve always appreciated Spinball for what it is.
Who remembers the era in the late ‘90s when 3D was the new thing and 2D games were being rejected by the gaming community?
I remember being caught up in that, because those early 3D graphics were SO cool as a kid, but it’s a bit embarrassing how much we rejected sprite graphics.
Random facts about the Sonic cast, from the Sonic Jam museum.
Sonic doesn’t like tears. Not sure if that means “tears” as in crying, or something like pants being torn. I’m assuming it’s the former.
Tails has no weakness.
Knuckles’ weakness is girls because he’s a shy guy.
This was a fun little thing to do, but, eh.
I really like the concept of the DK Challenge, but pretty much all of the challenges were just “beat this level”. 😆
I hope they continue doing stuff like this with their NSO games in the future, but with more fleshed out objectives.
What do all think about Nintendo Switch Sports Resort?
Personally, I think it looks really cool and I’m happy to see the return of Wuhu Island, but, I didn’t like the original Switch Sports very much and feel burned by that, so, I’m torn.
It’s incredibly fascinating that both Star Fox 64 and Zelda Ocarina of Time are getting remakes for the second time, and that in both instances their remakes are being released in the same year.
These two games are just inextricably linked it seems.
If I’m being honest, I was pretty bored during most of that Nintendo Direct, but then they really went out with a bang! The Ocarina of Time remake is happening and it looks awesome and I’m super hyped!
Metal Sonic Hyperdrive is a pretty cool Sonic hack that gives Metal Sonic his own unique adventure. I found this repro cart a while back and it’s neat playing on an actual Genesis.
Who else has played this one?
Nintendo has confirmed that tomorrow's Nintendo Direct will run for 50 minutes, followed by a massive 95 minutes of Nintendo Treehouse: Live content.

I can’t help feeling bad for whoever owns this car here. Imagine leaving the office after a hard day of work and you walk up to your car to see this situation.
Virtua Fighter Crossroads and FFVII Revelation were really cool to see at Summer Game Fest, but that was probably all that interested me personally. Not to downplay the show; I know there was a lot shown that got people excited.
Now just eagerly waiting on that Nintendo Direct.
