Today's collection, forming part of our 'Belongings & Belonging' campaign, is another contribution from our Community Advocacy Caseworker, Olivia Hammond.
“These miniature stainless steel buckets and bowls were my mams when she was little. She passed them down to me and my sister and they were well-loved toys throughout our childhood. One of my favourites is the engraved money box, in the style of an old fashioned water can. It has my mam’s initials on it and was gifted to her as a baby. Inside there are old coins, including dollars, francs, shillings and more. She recalls family coming back from working in America and giving her the coins for her money box."
Whilst there are very few fully nomadic Romani (Gypsy) families left, it was and still is very common for families to travel to Europe, Canada and America to earn a living, often returning to the UK for the winter.

@DrHNaqvi is among our prolific presenters at today’s leadership event: Improving Race Equality in Your Organisation – Evidence Based Resources for Leaders.
In his keynote he outlined why and how senior leaders across can drive meaningful change on race equity in healthcare.
ALT "This announcement marks a key landmark step towards regulating for workforce race equality across our healthcare system. By strengthening their collective commitment to race equality, healthcare regulatory bodies are actively dismantling barriers and ensuring that our healthcare system is a place where talent thrives regardless of background. We look forward to working with the regulatory bodies as they progress on this journey." Professor Habib Naqvi MBE
It’s National Picnic Week and what a perfect excuse to take your lunch outside. In all the excitement, children may want to explore but it’s important to encourage them to sit down when eating to reduce the risk of choking.

Today's heirloom, forming part of our 'Belongings & Belonging' campaign, has been sent in from Sarah-Jane Lee, a Romani (Gypsy) woman.
“This silver tea set belonged to my great granny. She bought it from a little baker’s shop and it’s been passed down through four generations. The last time the handle was painted was by my great granny, who we called old mother. It’s one of the most sentimental things I own, I remember cleaning it in my granny’s trailer many times.”
Lots of Romani (Gypsies) and Irish Travellers collect antique silver alongside pottery such as Royal Crown Derby and Royal Worcester, as well as Crystal – usually Waterford Crystal. Pieces often hold real sentimental value, especially when passed down through generations like this tea set has been.

Today's photo, forming part of our 'Belongings & Belonging' campaign, has been sent in from Tracy-Jane (Lowther) Hammond, a Romani (Gypsy) woman.
“This was a piece of my mam’s Royal Worcester. She bought it from a shop in Worksop and she paid it off weekly at £5 per week. It’s very sentimental to me and will be passed down to one of my girls. In our community it is tradition to pass down our heirlooms to the next generation.”
