In 2013, my great friend & director Mark Craig asked Gene Cernan - the last human to walk on the lunar surface - what words he had for the next astronauts to go to the Moon. And here they are, in tribute to @NASA's Artemis II crew & those that will follow. Please watch with volume up. Credit: Mark Stewart Productions/Haviland Digital/Stopwatch Productions

Friends, I will be in NYC next week for the opening of Robert Stone's marvellous STARMAN movie about the remarkable Gentry Lee. I have a vested interest as one of the producers (with Ray Rothrock), but I LOVE this film - inspiring, moving, at times luminously beautiful. At its heart is the great age of Solar System exploration, a triumph of the best of the human and American spirit. The image shows the details of the US tour and you can book via our STARMAN website starmanmovie.com/ @ObscuredPics

Sad news. Jerry Bostick, one of the greats of Apollo-era Mission Control has passed away. He was enormously helpful to our Mission Control film. A warm and generous soul and a great American. Love and blessings to his family and friends.

If you are in the UK, our new Apollo 1 documentary is now available on the Channel 4 website at channel4.com/progra.../apoll…. "This gripping documentary tells the tragic story of the trio of American astronauts who might have gone down in history as the first humans to walk on the moon but, instead, lost their lives during an ill-fated launch rehearsal in 1967. How did the accident happen, and what effect did these events have on later generations of space explorers? " - Guardian

Our new film APOLLO 1 is on the UK's @Channel4 TOMORROW - 7th December at 9:30pm. "If you enjoyed BBC2’s Once upon a Time in Space (still on iPlayer), this one-off doc is along similar lines and equally good. It charts an earlier part of the history of space flight, focusing on the ill-starred Apollo 1 mission — a key stepping stone in Nasa’s race to put men on the Moon." - David Butcher, Radio Times

The fact that this has become so routine is a miracle of vision, focus and engineering genius.

60 years ago today, NASA launched Gemini 4, and Ed White conducted the first American spacewalk, inspiring a generation. Ed White and Jim McDivitt would orbit the Earth for a total of 97 hours - more than every prior crewed NASA mission combined.

May 22, 1997 28 years ago, Eileen Collins departed the MIR space station as pilot of STS-84. She'd be home in two days. "The Sun was rising over the Atlantic Ocean. It was totally clear. We could see all the way down to Florida, where my family was waiting for me."

This quite the video - a real feeling of landing on an alien world and marking a page in space history.
Watch Firefly land on the Moon! After identifying surface hazards and selecting a safe landing site, #BlueGhost landed directly over the target in Mare Crisium. A historic moment on March 2 we'll never forget. We have Moon dust on our boots! #BGM1

The main objective of STS-63 - Eileen Collin's first mission - was to rendezvous with Russia's MIR station. The closest approach - within just 11 metres - took place Feb 6 1995. Here is a fabulous image of Valeriy Polyakov looking out of Mir’s window during the rendezvous.
