Data like this risk telling a worryingly simple story. Schools serving the highest proportions of disadvantaged pupils face deeper structural challenges every day. Reducing the work of school leaders to comparative Ofsted outcomes ignores the extraordinary effort, leadership and resilience required to support the communities. Accountability must recognise context, not erase it.

Six high-leverage teaching and learning techniques that we’ll be working on for the rest of the academic year - using group rehearsal and coaching to refine. @adamboxer1 and @mrbartonmaths any tips from the experts?

Direct instruction is joyful & leads pupils to success. Here is a *clip* where I use high frequency & high participation questioning in 3 phases: 1. Check for listening 2. Rehearsal 3. Check for understanding Established routines: all hands up, turn & talk, SLANT & ruler reading

***TEACHING AND LEARNING*** Thread 🧵 To improve the use of teaching and learning techniques in the classroom we need to define them “this is how we do it here” and make it common practice across the school. When implementing T&L techniques their success relies on this clarity and creating opportunities for teachers to deliberately practice. What have we done @LHS_HighSchool? STEP 1 We have identified 10 core T&L techniques. /1

This is our teaching and learning framework which has been written as an evidence-informed guide. We’re using it to help coaches to give concise and actionable feedback to colleagues. It’s work in progress… Feedback welcome! highqualityteaching.co.uk/

@ChrisMoyse Hi Chris. I’ve turned the framework into a website. We need to add video clips, but definite progress! What do you think?

A Thread on Handwriting… Over the past 2 years, I have paid more attention to the way handwriting is taught than at any other point in my career. Handwriting seemed a fairly simple thing that pupils would just pick up with a few lessons on letter formation. I was wrong! Here are some things I think about now that I didn’t always consider before…

Very interesting… @miss_mcinerney @TeacherTapp I wonder how much this varies by local authority. I’m in Cornwall and would love to see how this compares to the national picture.

NAHT members, don’t forget to return your ballot paper. Department for Education, don’t forget to fund the pay rise (note: this is different from just telling everyone you are funding it). @NAHTnews @GillianKeegan @educationgovuk @caph_cornwall

What code should I have written on the SATs attendance register for a pupil working below the level of the test?! I’ve written ‘U’ which I think may be incorrect as it’s ‘B’ on PAG. Had an email from the LA. Help! @Headteacherchat #sats2023
