Mental health challenges don’t always look like sadness. Sometimes they look like anger, withdrawal, overworking, substance use, emotional numbness, risk taking, trouble sleeping or silence. This Men’s Mental Health Month, let’s look beyond stereotypes and check in on the men.

I’m looking to work with 5 people. Each month, we contribute UGX 100,000 into a dedicated account for Adriel, Sidney’s son. This is a long-term commitment, something we do year after year, for as long as we’re able. If this is something you’d like to be part of, reach out. #Sid

Yesterday we talked about self harm and why people do it. One thing that stood out is this: it’s often not about wanting to die but about trying to cope with overwhelming pain. Today we share the signs that you can look out for.

It’s Self Harm Awareness Month. Self harm is often surrounded by stigma and misunderstanding. Yet for many individuals, it is a coping mechanism used to manage overwhelming emotional pain.

We recently held our annual planning retreat for Heart to Heart Spaces. It was a meaningful time of reflection, celebrating what we achieved, honestly reviewing where we fell short, and intentionally planning for the year ahead.

What Can Help Men and Their Identity Beyond Work?
Over-identifying with work or a job title can fuel burnout, emptiness and depression especially for men who neglect their emotional, social and spiritual lives. When unemployment hits, “Who am I without my work?” becomes a real mental-health challenge.
