A CTH member, Sakiko Nakao, has just published a monograph, Pan Afurika Shugi: Ekkyō suru Teikō to Rentai no Rekishi [Pan-Africanism: Transborder Histories of Resistance and Solidarity](Kyoto Daigaku Gakujutsu Shuppankai, 2026)
The first Japanese book on Transimperial History, which I co-edited with Satoshi Mizutani and Tomoki Yamada, will be published by Jimbun Shoin this month. The initiative owes to Satoshi, who has consistently sought to promote this theme in Japan. 1/2 transimperial.org/ja/
I will show my cards on this one - I am skeptical of transimperial history. Is it an attempt to write multiple and competing imperial processes and connections into the Interstices of empire? Where does this take us - methodologically - that is distinct from global history?
