Vice President Sara Duterte expressed sadness over the deaths of basketball players Rene Clert Baterbonia and Divine Adili, saying she believes Ateneo de Manila University fell short in its response to the incident. “Dapat kasi sa mga ganyan na mga panahon ay nauuna ‘yung pag-reach out nila sa pamilya at pag papaintindi sa pamilya kung ano ‘yung nangyari at ano ‘yung mga kailangan nilang gawin... the family and the school,” she said. 📹 OVP @ABSCBNNews @ANCALERTS

“This is what our garbage does.” A lifeless giant sea turtle was found along the shoreline of Brgy. Fishing Village in Malita, Davao Occidental, on Wednesday, June 3. Residents were saddened by the sight of discarded rubber tires, thick ropes, and other waste debris entangled around the body of the green sea turtle. Resident Monell Estilloso, who documented the lifeless pawikan, expressed dismay over the situation, saying he was particularly saddened by the thought that nobody had been able to help the turtle as it struggled to free itself from the debris wrapped around its body. The Marine Wildlife Watch of the Philippines also emphasized how marine pollution continues to claim the lives of marine animals. “A preventable death. A wasteful loss. An unnecessary tragedy. Marine pollution continues to claim innocent lives. Dispose of waste responsibly—what we throw away does not simply disappear,” the organization said. 📹 Monell Estilloso @ABSCBNNews @ANCALERTS

“The people living around the landfill have already been evacuated. The threat to human life has been addressed. What remains are corrective measures that can be undertaken while allowing landfill operations to continue based on sound and practical judgement,” ayon sa alkalde. @ABSCBNNews
