Hannah Update from FB 6/15
PART 1/2
The accident was two weeks ago Saturday. It was an especially emotional day for us all. Hannah has been asking to speak to the fireman and paramedics who cut her out of the car. She wants to thank them for their clear thinking and quick action…they cut her out of the car in 10 minutes and had an ambulance waiting to transport her to the trauma center immediately. They and Dr Monty Littlejohn, the trauma surgeon the first night, through prayer and by the grace of God, saved her life.
Late last week, Hannah was moved from PCU to a regular room of the hospital. Her catheter was removed on Thursday before moving her to the step down unit, and her chest tube (which was quite painful) was removed on Friday. Yesterday (Sunday) the staples were removed from her abdomen. These are big steps towards recovery and healing.
Prayer requests at this stage~Hannah has two large hematomas…one on the back of each thigh. Each is about the size of two large fists Whenever they move her which happens multiple times a day, if they touch or even brush against either of them, she cries out in excruciating pain. She says they feel like they are on fire and pulse. They are also scary because they are technically surface level blood clots which in rare cases can travel. She gets a painful shot of heprin in her belly every morning, and that is her only protection against blood clots. Normally a hematoma in the leg would be treated with compression socks but Hannah has fractures and casting splints on both legs so compression socks are not a possibility. PLEASE PRAY AGAINST BLOOD CLOTS!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Also, when Hannah first came through first 3 of 4 major surgeries since the accident, the doctors told us that one of her main risks was infection. We had prayed and prayed against infection, and she showed no signs of infection for awhile. For the last few days, Hannah has been running fevers at night. Last night was the highest it’s been…101.6. She wasn’t initially responding to the Tylenol so they packed her shoulders and neck with ice packs. This morning around 5am, her temp was back down to 98.0.
It actually has become a pattern that every evening around 8 or 9pm, she becomes restless and extremely uncomfortable. Her pain becomes unmanaged, she is intermittently hot and sweating and then freezing and shaking. Then she gets a fever, becomes nauseous and anxious. Helping her through those 2-3 hours before she eventually falls asleep is one of the most challenging parts of the day. She does get a sleeping pill and an anxiety pill at night but they try not to give it to her until 11pm before they do their final vitals checks so that she doesn’t have to be woken when they do the checks, once she has fallen asleep.
We are grateful that she does now sleep at night time, once she is through that restless period. When she was first off the ventilator, she barely slept at all for 3-4 days because her pain was so out of control. Her ability to sleep now is such a blessing!
Here is yesterday's update on Hannah from Facebook.
The family may be starting a Caring Bridge page, which will allow others to update things. If you follow the Union of Orthodox Journalists, they posted about Hannah as well.
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥Hannah Prayer Request ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Hannah is in surgery for her eye socket. She went in a little later than expected because they had trouble getting an additional IV on her poor battered right arm…the only limb she has that is not broken. She was super upset to be having any surgery. She cried and cried and said she was so scared. This surgery is to repair the broken bone under her eye. They are inserting a small plate to hold the bone together. Please pray for the surgeon’s hands as well as for her pain and anxiety and her recovery. 🙏🏼❤️🩹
