Crazy story:
I do a lot of late night walking (I'm nocturnal). The other day I peeked into a little library in front of a house on a cute little side street by me and saw a couple books by Sutter Cane (the fictional author from John Carpenter's 1994 film, In the Mouth of Madness staring Sam Neil).
I'm a huge John Carpenter fan, so I grabbed them and brought them home. As a flipped through the pages, I realized they all have the exact same text printed on them over and over.
After further examination, I came to the conclusion that they're actual screen used props from the film. I put on my jewelers glasses and closely examined the cover printing to see the old-school half-tone dots, looked at the paper stock and saw fine brown fibers of old wood pulp, gave it a good sniff to confirm the dank basement smell of a 30 year old book, and cross referenced them against the movie and copies sold at auction. John Carpenter recently sold off 50 of them he pulled out of storage. One per customer at $250 USD.
These are not from that lot.
I got to thinking about how many film people are in my neighborhood. I knew for sure that David Cronenberg was near by, as I had been to his house to demo a VR experience I made back in 2014.

I dug through my old emails to find the address, as I didn't remember exactly where it was.
Turns out, it's the house directly across the street from said little library where the books were found. WIld!
Right beside the email with the address was an email from his son Brandon (also a director), thanking me for demoing VR to them, and asking me for a little help getting the DK2 we gave them running on his Mac.
So, I just emailed Brandon this story, because of the insane co-incidence, and checked to make sure someone didn't throw them in the library by mistake.
That brings us up to date. Just wanted to share and document this, because sometimes, things in my life happen that I can hardly believe myself.
Do you read Sutter Cane?
