I always thought Udupi was a temple town. Turns out it gave me one of the most relaxing beach weekends I’ve had in Karnataka. ✓ Friday night bus from Bengaluru ✓ Saturday at Kodi Beach Mangrove Kayaking ✓ Sunday at St. Mary’s Island Malpe Beach ✓ Back in Bengaluru before work on Monday Approximate cost per person: 🚌 Bus: ₹1,500 one way 🛶 Mangrove kayaking: ₹300 🚕 Local transport: ₹500 per person in 2 days 🏕️ Stay: Depends on the property and season Saturday: 📍 Stayed near Kodi Beach with direct sea access 📍 Surf boards provided by the host 📍 Peaceful beach with very few crowds 📍 1.5 hours kayaking through the mangrove forest near Kodi Beach Tip: Go early morning or after lunch. Midday can get very hot. Sunday: 📍 Malpe Beach 📍 St. Mary’s Island (don’t miss this) The boat ride takes around 30 minutes and the volcanic rock formations are unlike anything I’ve seen near Bengaluru. 2 hours on the island is enough. Carry water. After returning to Malpe, enjoy the beach or try the water sports like Goa Before heading back, don’t miss lunch at : 🍽️ Thimmappa Fish Hotel One thing I liked about Udupi: It felt peaceful. No rush. No pressure. Just beaches, seafood and slow evenings and lots of fun. If you’re from Udupi, what else should I add to my next trip

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been fascinated by mountains like this. A single peak rising from the plains, climbing so high that its summit stays covered in snow. With the Himalayas, you can see the elevation building gradually through range after range. But mountains like this feel different. They seem to rise straight out of the earth and touch the sky. I don’t know if I’ll ever get the chance to stand on that summit. But some mountains become part of your heart long before you ever set foot on them. Photo by - Nili Gudhka

As someone who’s stayed in many homestays, I’ve seen this too. The ones who treat the place with respect stand out because they’re rare. Good on you for calling it out!!
My family runs a homestay in the hills of Darjeeling and it goes without saying that we have to deal with all kinds of people. However, we have noticed some things that seem to be uniform behaviour for all Indians: a) They will dirty the room, and not spare even the pillows,

To save gas, they boiled water in an electric kettle and poured it directly over tea leaves instead of boiling them together. Did they make tea… or did they just commit a crime? ☕😅

I’ve stayed in hundreds of rooms, but this is the first time I’ve seen this. The fan is running at full speed. I’m lying directly under it. Yet I can barely feel any airflow. What’s the science behind this?

Saw this bicycle repair shop today and it got me thinking. Do you think today’s kids are having a better childhood than we did?

If you’re visiting Kasol, Himachal Pradesh , don’t miss Manikaran. Three places worth visiting: • Gurudwara • Shiva Temple • Ram Temple All three are right next to each other. The most fascinating part is the natural hot water springs. There are separate kunds for men and women, and the water stays incredibly hot no matter how cold it is outside. You can even buy a small bag of rice, tie it with a thread, and cook it in the hot spring as prasad. The temples and Gurudwara also use the same spring water to cook rice. One of the most unique and memorable experiences I’ve had in the mountains. 🙏

And yes, the water is actually that hot 😅 I could barely stand in it for a minute before my legs started feeling like they were burning. Hard to believe when you’re standing in the middle of the mountains surrounded by cold weather.

Genuine question: We left our hometowns for better opportunities. Do you think we gained more than we lost?

Jog Falls. Still one of the most breathtaking places I’ve visited in Karnataka 😍 What’s the most beautiful waterfall you’ve ever seen?

Every March, Bengaluru suddenly starts looking like this 🌸 What’s the most beautiful flower lined road you’ve come across in the city?

Genuine question: Do Indians who settle abroad ever stop missing India? Movies often show people feeling nostalgic about home even after decades. How close is that to reality?

Reading through all the replies, the reality seems to be somewhere between the movies and real life. The nostalgia is real for most people, but so is the life they’ve built elsewhere. Many seem to carry both worlds with them. What surprised me is that even after decades abroad, a lot of people still miss parts of India. At the same time, family, careers and children often give them reasons to stay where they are. I guess home never fully leaves you, even when life moves on. Beautifully put by so many here — thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts ❤️

For anyone who is interested : We stayed at Zone 51 Kodi Homestay & Campsite. They have both rooms and tents. They helped arrange local auto and mangrove kayaking, which made things quite easy for us. They’re available on Google, so I’d recommend calling them directly for the latest details before planning. We visited in mid-April.
