I’m pleased to share that I’ve joined Historical Biology as a new Associate Editor! 😊
Looking forward to supporting research in molecular palaeontology and Quaternary faunas.

Excited to report that @ScrippsJSchool journalism student Eric Boles published his master's thesis research (which I helped supervise) on aspects of news coverage of paleo in the 1990s in @HistBiol: bit.ly/41VMS4e. Also elicited an editorial: bit.ly/4spzQH9! 🦖
For #FossilFriday, we're pleased to announce Dr. Brooke Long-Fox as our new deputy editor-in-chief!
Dr. Brooke Long-Fox is a paleobiologist whose research explores how organisms respond to environmental change across spatial & temporal scales.
She collaborates on aquatic ecology projects examining productivity, nutrient availability & PFAS contaminants in modern rivers & contributes to efforts that develop AI-assisted tools for data curation, while advancing open & reproducible science through her work with MorphoBank.
She also serves in leadership roles promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the scientific community.
As Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Historical Biology, she hopes to strengthen open and FAIR data practices and support transparent, reproducible research.
For #FossilFriday, we're paying tribute to fossils from the incredible work of our deputy editor-in-chief, Dr Hans Sues, who sadly passed away last weekend.
This photo of him includes a cast of a Brontosaurus skull, a 20 m sauropod, from the Smithsonian where he worked 🦕(1/6)
Lastly, we have Pappochelys, which Hans called one of his favourite fossils. This diaspid reptile's discovery suggests turtles should also be considered diaspids. This critter, described by Hans in 2015, could thus be a stem turtle 🐢

Hans left a huge mark in the field of palaeontology. He is well remembered by peers & enthusiasts for his thorough work & jolly sense of humour.
He will be dearly missed by friends & colleagues at Historical Biology & beyond. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. (6/6)
