Big thank you to our guide at the Newfoundland Memorial. Pupils learned lots about the role of the Newfoundland troops and the impact WW1 had on their country.

Since 1928, the Last Post ceremony has taken place every night at the Menin Gate. The only exception was during German occupation in WW2. Henrietta and Felix are pictured here laying a wreath from Ipswich High School.

Our visit to Tyne Cot Cemetery led to students pondering the flat topped graves. These were the graves of two German soldiers.

More from Sanctuary Wood! Students had a great time exploring the muddy trenches, dark tunnels and the dug outs.

After our visit to Langemark, we visited the Flanders Field museum. We then had chance for some chocolate shopping and a mooch around the market. The students bought their families lots of lovely Belgian chocolate!

Our first stop this morning was Langemark cemetery. These German graves are a stark contrast to the CWGC sites we have visited. Students pondered the differences in how the war is remembered and memorialised by each country.

Lijssenthoek cemetery. Students enjoyed exploring the database with their surnames and local area.

Year 9 students arrived in Ypres. Our first day included a visit to Lijssenthoek cemetery, Bayernwald trenches and Essex Farm. We rounded off the day with a walk to town, followed by dinner and an evening of games at the Menin Gate Hostel. Pictures to follow!
