I think the really mad thing is that between 1892 and 2024, the only elections to not feature a Bryan, Roosevelt, Nixon, Bush, Clinton or Biden are 1916, 1928, 1948, 1964 and 1976.
That's 5 out of 32 elections to not feature those 6 families.
Nothing exactly like this, of course nominations being decided at conventions used to be the norm. LBJ deciding not to run (and RFK assassination) in 1968 is the closest. Then Tyler being kicked out of the Whigs in 1844, or Johnson attempting to be nominated as a Dem in 1868
