Pennsylvania has been called for Donald Trump. He is almost certain to be America’s next president. Follow the latest here econ.st/3UH0g9j👇

So I know the odds of this are miniscule if you're following me here, but if you're American, and somehow haven't yet decided whether to vote or how to vote, please consider voting Harris/Walz for your ol' pal Jamie

So it's been a busy few months! I've been away in Uzbekistan, at weddings, then quite ill and unable to talk, but we finally have a new episode! A History of the United States - 182 - Citizen Genet. The issue of neutrality wraps up our coverage of the Washington Administration.

Today begins the Vuelta a España, starting in Lisbon, & the commentator casually throws out a reference to the Portuguese Empire, saying it was one of the less bad ones I mean, debatable, but since when is being better than the British Empire an accomplishment??? It's not hard

I think the really mad thing is that between 1892 and 2024, the only elections to not feature a Bryan, Roosevelt, Nixon, Bush, Clinton or Biden are 1916, 1928, 1948, 1964 and 1976. That's 5 out of 32 elections to not feature those 6 families.

1900 and 1992 get bonus points for being matchups between them

Nothing exactly like this, of course nominations being decided at conventions used to be the norm. LBJ deciding not to run (and RFK assassination) in 1968 is the closest. Then Tyler being kicked out of the Whigs in 1844, or Johnson attempting to be nominated as a Dem in 1868

In your studies, have you come across anything similar in the American presidency? I’ll admit, I cannot think of any.
