our society is in decline because there aren't enough women with hair like this anymore.

at what point do we acknowledge Donahue and her costars as some of the principal artists behind the film
Original BLAIR WITCH PROJECT star Heather Donahue/Rei Hance has explained why she's not part of the reboot team. "I was offered an agreement that, for me personally, raised difficult long-term questions about rights, future technological use of identity and voice, the ability to speak freely, and compensation. Ultimately, it just wasn’t something I felt comfortable signing. "I genuinely wish everyone involved well. But preserving my autonomy mattered more to me."

i'd wager that an ongoing, horrifying collective experience- one many of us are witnessing largely through screens- might be to blame for audience skepticism that a "shared moment of empathy" is possible, or even a solution to any of humanity's greatest afflictions
It's telling that the element of Disclosure Day that people are having the most trouble believing isn't the sci-fi , but the idea of humanity experiencing a shared moment of empathy. Which makes me think that must be the point Spielberg is going for - it's a plea for togetherness

i don't know that i'd agree with this outright, but i do agree that spielberg is significantly more repressed than de palma, and so often more uncomfortable in his psychosexual revelations especially when backdropped by his (comparably) more overt commercialism.
spielberg is way more perverted than de palma. de palma never ended a movie with a kid getting in bed with his mom who he's just killed

a lot of this comes down to de palma's relationship to the id...his thorough embrace of libido. the only new hollywood guy who was out getting laid instead scaring the hoes.

i'd appeal to the bromide "act like you've been there"...but then i remember that nearly all of the knicks fans who have are dead, so what can you do?

I’ve been thinking really hard about that person who threw an egg at Wemby’s head last night. I really didn’t like that
