A few more updates.
1. We hate seeing people impacted by the Discord hack. The hacker took advantage of some good people in our community.
2. We said yesterday that the hacker never got access to an admin or super admin account. No admin or super-admin account was compromised. This hack gave them access to the announcements channel, where they then impersonated an admin but they themselves did not have the full admin or super admin privileges.
3. The hack asked users to authenticate their wallet on typosquatted URL that to retrieve their scam Airdrop and then proceeded to drain their wallets.
3. The hack occurred in the middle of the night for us in the United States so we were sleeping, but some of the mods (on different time zones) and auto-mods were actively fighting this hacker. We want to thank the many folks who worked hard to fight back against this hacker. Once the team in the US woke up, we took further measures to address the issue.
4. The unfortunate part of crypto culture is that the Airdrop scam is far too common. We know we have warned folks before but we will do it again, when you hear airdrop please run the other way. Additionally, you will never need to sign a transaction to receive Hivemapper rewards. If you are ever asked to sign a transaction by an entity claiming to be Hivemapper, it is a scam. Do not engage at all, and please alert others.
5. We have filed a report with the FBI, using the IC3 process.
We truly appreciate the community's work to alert others about this hacker and the work they did to fight the hacker. And we are very sorry about the impact to some members of the community.
