After watching @Alex_Ortodoxie debate last night, it’s clear to see why people like @JayDyer and more are losing interest in religious debate. It’s almost entirely untrained debaters. As a result, the trained debater has to spend an insane amount of time teaching their unskilled opponents as to what their own arguments entail. And when they do, they still don’t get it. Now, even though this results in easy wins as far as the polling goes, the skilled winner is still left unsatisfied that a more substantive conversation never developed - because that is why they got into this in the first place.
