Given it’s been established Annastacia Palaszczuk has nothing to do with the serious allegations now before the court, it is entirely reasonable to ask that media reporting of the matter exclude her name.

Regardless of your political views, there needs to be regard for an individual who will be going through more than enough at the moment. Report the matter, of course, but just leave her name out of it.

Congratulations also to Lieutenant General Susan Coyle and Rear Admiral Matthew Buckley on their appointments. We should be incredibly proud of the calibre of leaders within the ADF. They continue a fine tradition of noble sacrifice and service.

Congratulations to Greg Moriarty on his appointment as our Ambassador to the US. I worked closely with Greg during my time as Defence Minister, when Greg served as the Secretary of the Department of Defence. I admired his work as our Ambassador to Indonesia and his saintly skills as a chief of staff. I wish him well in his work with our most important ally.

Katie Allen led a remarkable life. Amazing mother and wife, gifted doctor and passionate community advocate. And so much more. Sadly Katie’s best years were ahead of her. Taken way too soon. Katie had so much more to achieve. On the ground with community groups, I saw Katie shine. She was genuine and members of her local area knew it. My deep condolences to Malcolm, her children and broader family.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Jewish community and those impacted by this senseless slaughter in Bondi. The oldest form of hatred has been manifesting in our country, starting with graffiti, racist protest, fire bombings and now a mass killing. Leaders in the Jewish community have warned of the inevitability of this day. It is a tragedy for the victims, their families and the first responders and hero community members who rushed to help. It is a day of national shame.

When Ian Leavers was President of the Queensland Police Union he must have broken every rule in the Traffic Act to get to the scene of a police shooting. So quick was his response and his show of support, it provided immediate comfort for the family of the deceased officer and fellow police officers. It was a tangible example of his incredible leadership style and it earned him enormous respect. It summed up the character of Ian Leavers. His passing is a horrible tragedy. I enjoyed a friendship with Ian over decades. In every conversation he was a fierce advocate for police officers. He led a distinguished police career, and he was loyal to his friends. May he rest in peace. And may his passing remind us to do even more to look out for a mate or someone in need.

Graham Richardson was a giant of his beloved Labor Party. He was a person of true influence in Australian politics and business spheres. In the backroom and on television screens, he had a powerful and impactful presence. More importantly, Richo lived for his family. Whenever we caught up over a bite to eat, the discussion was of course about events and politics, contemporary and historic; but the conversation was also heavily focused on family. He has had some difficult years with health and mobility, but ever stoic he was a fighter to the end. I extend my deep condolences to Amanda and his children. May he rest in peace.

No spin by Adam Bandt can change the reality that he, and other Green members, lost their seats because of their appalling treatment of the Jewish community. Australians were rightly disgusted at their behaviour. We were proud to preference the Greens last, helping to ensure Adam Bandt’s loss.

Are you, your family, and our country better off today than three years ago? Consider what’s occurred on Labor watch: Unrestrained government spending that’s fuelled inflation. Twelve interest rate rises. A cost-of-living crisis. The worst collapse in living standards in our country’s history – and in the developed world. An economy that will soon be burdened with $1 trillion of debt. A renewables-only energy policy trainwreck. Power bills that haven’t gone down by $275 as promised, but risen by up to $1,300. Some 30,000 small businesses gone bust. In just two years, a record one million migrants brought in. A housing crisis as a result. An 11 per cent fall in bulk billing. GP shortages. Surging youth crime and antisemitism. Some 300 hardcore criminals released from immigration detention, with one-third reoffending. Tourist visas granted to 3,000 people from a terrorist-controlled war zone without thorough security checks. A blind eye turned to Chinese Communist Party military aggression and Russian provocation. And the divisive Voice referendum. A Coalition Government will get Australia back on track. Here’s what we will do: Halve the fuel tax saving you about $750 a year, per vehicle. Give 85 per cent of taxpayers a rebate of up to $1,200. Rein-in wasteful government spending to get inflation and interest rates down. Get more gas into the domestic system to bring down power bills and costs across the economy. Shore-up our future energy security with nuclear power. Re-energise our economy by defunding environmental activists, stopping mafia-like mobs in our building sector, giving tax breaks to small businesses, and green-lighting resource projects. Revive the dream of home ownership by reducing migration, banning foreign investors and temporary residents from purchasing existing homes, getting projects off the ground with infrastructure investment, and allowing first home buyers to access their super for a deposit and deduct the interest they pay on their mortgage. Commit more money to Medicare than Labor. Ensure classrooms are places of education – not indoctrination. Crack down on crime. Deport non-citizen criminals – again. Stop the boats – again. And lift defence spending to 2.5 per cent of GDP to re-tool our defence force to deter a larger adversary. If I’m given the great honour to lead our country, I will create certainty for our country amidst international uncertainty and revive our national confidence. I will proudly stand in front of our one national flag to remind Australians of the things that unite us: our common citizenship, shared values, and love for our country. The difference between a bleak future and a better future comes down to common sense. This Saturday, I have every confidence that the common sense of Australians will elect a Coalition Government to get our country back on track.
