Inviting Taliban officials to Brussels to discuss a migration deal sends a dangerous message that a regime can systematically oppress Afghan women and girls and still be welcomed as a diplomatic partner. This is the same regime that, last week, detained at least thirty women and girls in Herat for how they were dressed, opened fire on the people who protested their arrest, killed a child and injured others.  The Taliban’s system of gender apartheid has erased women’s and girls from public life — banning them from schools and work, severely restricting their freedom of movement and forcing them into marriage. Europe should not be considering deals with a regime responsible for one of the worst human rights crises in the world. rferl.org/a/eu-taliban-meeti…

It's absolutely standard journalistic practice & has been for years. Pearl-clutching, responses off.
May I gently point out - the person you casually refer to as "Starmer" - is actually the democratically elected Prime Minister. Would it not be courteous to refer to him in those terms ? At least respect the office of PM if not the individual in post.

Read this from @signalapp, one of leaders in tech privacy to understand the implications of Starmer’s announcement. This is going to hand even more surveillance powers to the very companies that already know way too much about us.

Gut wrenching to see four young people jailed for direct action against an arms supplier to Israel. Years in prison for protesting to save lives in Gaza, with 'terrorism' used despite no jury convicting them of it. A truly dangerous attack on the right to protest.

🚨The recent images of Dr. Hussam Abu Safyia are shocking evidence of Israel's abuse against Palestinian detainees. Dr. Abu Safyia has been arbitrarily detained for one and a half years without charges, while being physically abused and denied healthcare. His recent solitary confinement adds a further layer of concerns over his deteriorating health. Dr. Abu Safyia must be immediately and unconditionally released. Israel must release all Palestinians arbitrarily detained. States must pressure Israel to stop abusing Palestinian prisoners. #FreeDrHussamAbuSafiya

A judge decided that they knew better than the jury. That is not how our justice system is meant to work.
These four protesters, are going to be convicted on terrorist offences. That's very serious for their futures, but also for the justice system in our country. If people can admit liability for criminal activity, but still be found guilty as terrorists, it's deeply concerning.

There was a choice?
Hi Frances, I know it was 4 yrs ago, but your memory lets you down. You asked to see me on the day that I attended the Privy Council to choose the next King of England. My minion, as you called her, apologised & offered other dates. Not a coward, just busy - like many women👑

Every boat that arrives brings a question along with the migrants: what kind of world have we built, if so many brothers and sisters must risk death to seek life? Human dignity demands legal and safe pathways, rescue and assistance, real cooperation against traffickers, effective protection for victims, serious processes of reception and integration, and policies that allow every person to live with dignity in their own land. We cannot grow accustomed to counting the dead. Human dignity has no passport and does not lose its value when crossing a border. #ApostolicJourney

Horrible merciless practice.
@GreenJennyJones is proud to support the Wildlife and Countryside Link's 'Let's End Bycatch' campaign. Every year, thousands of marine animals are needlessly killed, when they become entangled in fishing nets. The government must take action now to preserve our seas and oceans

Richard Burgon just exposed the most glaring double standard in British policy "Imagine if this weekend in London there was a Russian real estate event selling Ukrainian land. The government would ban it immediately. Instead, we have an Israeli real estate event openly advertising the illegal sale of land in occupied Palestinian territories. The government recognizes Palestine. Why isn't this banned?"
