🚨 𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑 🚨
🏆 As we near the end of the 2025-26 school year, @HoustonChron is honoring the best of Houston high school athletics! We have launched voting for our inaugural Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year and Community All-Star awards.
Two long-debated changes in Texas high school sports gained momentum Wednesday. The UIL moved girls flag football one step closer to sanctioning, directing staff to develop an implementation plan. It also approved a 35-second shot clock pilot program. houstonchronicle.com/sports/…
🚨 In the very beginning stages of the Houston Chronicle’s annual FAB 50, ranking the top high school football players in the Greater Houston area entering the 2026 season.
👀 Who should be on the list? #txhsfb
Tomball is bringing another state championship home. Behind a dominant performance from MVP C.J. Sampson and four RBIs from Nolan Rush, the Cougars defeated Memorial 9-1 to win the UIL Class 6A Division II state title at Dell Diamond — their second state championship in three years. 🔗bit.ly/4eslWjK
⚾️ NEW: Led by standout performances from C.J. Sampson and Nolan Rush, two players with deep connections to Dell Diamond, Tomball claimed its third baseball state championship with a victory over Memorial: “It’s huge because Tomball is like a throwback town. They love their high school sports, and they raise their kids well, and they want their kids to be coached hard, and they want to win championships.” @TomballISD@tomball_bsball@THS__athletics@TISDTHS@cj_sampson7@handal_dave#UILState#txhsbaseballhoustonchronicle.com/sports/…
Whether you live on Houston’s Eastside and or you grew up near Katy in west Houston, you can decide on the top coaches and athletes in the region. Vote in the Houston Chronicle’s Athlete of the Year program.

⚾️ NEW: In a game that included nearly 3 hours of weather delays, Lake Creek stayed in the fight. But the Lions came up just short against Aledo in a battle for the Class 5A Division I state championship: “For a long season, starting back in January and making it to the last day of season, it really flew by because they were just … it was a fun group to be around.” @LakeCreekBall@LakeCreekHS@coachlaplante@MontgomeryISD#UILState#txhsbaseballhoustonchronicle.com/sports/…
⚾️ Didn't include this in my story, but Lake Creek has a chance to become just the 11th school in UIL history to win both softball and baseball state championships in the same year. Only two Houston-area schools have accomplished that since the inaugural softball season in 1993: Barbers Hill (2021) and Kingwood (2025). #UILState
