Did any one of my followers feel an earthquake in Finland or Estonia in the last 24 hours? I’m attempting to determine if an apparent M4.0 quake was real or a false positive.

I need to remind people that traveling within a volcano’s active exclusion zone that has repeatedly noted and declared off limits to EVERYONE (along with the government saying “stop climbing this volcano”) is a terrible idea and illegal. Those zones exist for a reason. (1/2)

Sadly, today’s disaster was all but inevitable in my opinion given the apparent recent-ish exponential increase in traffic within Dukono’s exclusion zone. It was only a matter of time until fatalities happened; likely the volcano’s likely first since its 16th century eruption.2/2

So I remind everyone; those exclusion zones should NEVER be entered for any reason. Otherwise injury or death could follow. Volcanoes are inherently unpredictable too.

In my opinion, I will be quite surprised if the Slamet volcano doesn’t erupt in the next 30 days. #volcano #indonesia

Gaua volcano (Vanuatu) seems to have weakly erupted on April 6th, and seemingly no one noticed. #volcano #vanuatu

I beg you, it would be so freaking funny if today marked the day where the AI bubble finally burst. And yes, this is being posted because a certain video ai was killed off that seemingly plagued my YouTube feed.

That’s an unusual earthquake swarm or at least increased seismicity at the Gareloi volcano (Aleutian islands region). @alaska_avo @USGSVolcanoes

I had been seeing a few images/video of that recent meteorite over parts of Europe. Images aren’t high enough resolution for me to make a determination. Can’t tell if achondrite or eucrite (guessing, could be wrong). However, wasn’t it moving a bit slow for a meteorite?

Wondering if any official identification has been made, or estimates on the object’s speed. Still fairly fast, just didn’t seem to be the ~17 km/s I’d expect

Since today is my day off I’m making a basketball post. (I mean, I played the game for 1000s of hours in high school). I will be very very annoyed if Miami Ohio doesn’t make the March madness tournament. They are undefeated and deserve a spot, even if they might get (1/2)

(2/2) blown out in the first round of the tournament. But I don’t think they will. I can see them making it to the third round. While yes, they haven’t played any current top 25, my read of their team is that they work very well together rather than top of the top skill.

I’m not calling them bad. They are fantastic. But it seems like their strength is having good team cohesion and drive rather than simple out skill of opponents. This is an interesting trait as it allows extreme underdogs to knock out overconfident favorites in tournaments.

Replying to @USGS
@USGS @USGS_Quakes unsure if error on the recent earthquakes page or if there really was a doublet (2x M6.5) in Vanuatu. Assuming error due to repeated perfect rounding in the second entry. First quake is real though.

Edit: nevermind. Entry was just fixed to a singular one

For the 35,000th time, no one and I mean no one can identify what earthquakes are foreshocks. Only after a main larger earthquake occurs (mainshock) can we say such. So anyone claiming otherwise is putting out nonsense, and I’m getting tired of having to debunk stuff like (1/2)

(2/2) this instead of working on video projects I want. Misinformation “geology” channels are spreading like wildfire, while views at legit geologist channels (like myself and Shawn Wilsey) are way down. It’s frustrating.

Now, myself and Shawn Wilsey aren’t the only legit geology channels out there (many exist) but I hope my point comes across.
