Today in Rock History June 8, 1999 Pearl Jam released their cover of “Last Kiss” for the charity album No Boundaries: A Benefit for the Kosovar Refugees. Originally recorded by Wayne Cochran in 1961, the song peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the band’s highest-charting single. Pearl Jam recorded the cover as a benefit for refugees of the Kosovo War. The band’s live version from a 1998 concert was so popular with fans that they decided to release it officially. It became a surprise summer hit and helped raise significant funds for humanitarian aid.
