How do molecules create life? That is the very essence of what the diverse group of researchers in the Huck Group is about to discover. *Student-run account*
Proud to share the last publication from my PhD - recently out in Chem&Bio Eng. (open access! pubs.acs.org/doi/full/10.102…). It is a dive into how immobilization chemistry affects enzymes' pH-activity profiles. We show an easy potential way to gain in activity! @Huckgroup
Our recent @NatureChemistry paper demonstrates how resource competition can endow enzymatic reaction networks with reservoir computing capabilities to perform complex information processing tasks!

Congrats to all the authors🎉🎉
On 16 September 2025, Melde Witmond successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled "To signal or not to signal" and became the 31st Dr. in the Huck group. Congratulations, Dr Melde!! We wish you all the best with your future career! 🥂📷
On 22 September 2025, Mathieu Baltussen successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled "Thinking in Molecules" and became the 32nd Dr. in the Huck group. Not only did he obtain his PhD but he did so in style by being awarded the PhD cum laude! Congratulations, Mathieu!! 👏🎉🥂
Yesterday, we had a Huck group outing! The afternoon began with a Titanic-themed escape room on a boat, where teamwork, timing, and tenacity were put to the test. Whereafter we played games in Kronenburger park, before closing the day with conversation and cuisine at Werf. 😎
On 2 July, 2025, Mart Bartelds successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled "Cell-free characterization of post-transcriptional regulators for the development of dynamic gene circuits". Congratulations, Mart!! We wish you all the best with your future career! 🥂🎉
Our esteemed enzymologist, Nikita Ivanov (@ChemNIvanov ) successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled “Emergent phenomena in artificial enzymatic reaction networks” on Friday 2 May, 2025. Nikita became 29th Dr. in the Huck group!
Big congratulations, Nikita!! 🥳🎉
On 17th December, 2024, Peer van Duppen (@Peerofficial2) successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled "The Formose Reaction Prebiotic Soup or Recipe for Life?". Big congratulations, Peer!! You deserved it! All the best to your future career! 🥳🎉
Secret Sock Santa once again visited POC department! Our annual tradition - to become Secret Santa and gift beautiful socks and create poems for each other! There were no limits in creativity and everyone was happy to receive warm words and guess who was their Secret Santa🎅🎁
Last Friday we had Physical Organic Chemistry (POC) department outing! We started off in the morning with a Lab Safety and Organisational meeting, which was followed up by lunch and a #graffiti workshop! See our team result in Picture 2! @Radboud_Uni@radboudscience@Waalhalla_
On 30 October 2025 the 6th CORENET general Assembly took place. This time hosted in Copenhagen by our partners from the @UniSouthDenmark . It was a great to catch up with all our collaborators and see everyone’s progress towards creating chemical reservoir computers.
Yesterday, Wilhelm gave a talk titled "The Robots Are Coming" for the Huygens Colloquium (organized by the Faculty of Science @Radboud_Uni) discussing how a self-driving RobotLab using AI and chemistry aims to replace toxic chemicals with biocompatible alternatives.
On October 14-15, we attended a memorial symposium dedicated to Prof. Roeland Nolte, organized by Wilhelm, @Dr_Bernhard , Bert Meijer & @FeringaLab . Many professors, former PhD students and family members gathered to share heartfelt memories, along with engaging research talks.
In memory of a great supramolecular chemist and dear friend, the memorial symposium for Professor Roeland Nolte was held at @Radboud_Uni, Nijmegen.
A heartfelt thanks to the organizers @Huckgroup, @Dr_Bernhard, and Bert Meijer for honoring his legacy.
💻Prof. Wilhelm Huck (@Huckgroup) will be presenting an online lecture on 4th October, via @iCANX_Talks (ican-x.com/icanx-talks) hosted in Beijing and titled: 'Neuromorphic computing in chemical reaction networks - towards intelligent materials'✨
The Memorial Symposium dedicated to Professor Roeland Nolte will take place on October 14-15 in Nijmegen.
