The best way to gauge the quality of someone’s ideas isn’t to listen to them talking. It’s to read their writing. Compelling speakers can mask weak logic with strong charisma. Putting key points on a page exposes flawed reasoning. Compelling writing requires clear thinking.

What a scary proposition. I didn’t know about this, and I’m guessing many (most) others don’t either. :(
Tomorrow, a crucial piece of legislation around healthcare will be scrutinised by MPs. It will happen in a committee room, away from the main chambers, on a whisper. If it passes, it will worsen the health of the UK population. Did you know about it? No? A thread 🧵

This was an excellent workshop to parents highlighting what we can do help our children embrace true masculinity, not the media and society’s perception of what it should be. Thanks Mike @ProgressiveMasc for the work you do.

New Stanford study on how much leaders communicate & the impact it creates. 4 key conclusions: 1) Leaders are nearly 10X as likely to be criticised by their teams for under-communicating than for over-communicating 2) Leaders who under-communicate are seen as having less empathy & less leadership ability by their teams 3) Leaders are judged much more harshly by their teams for under-communicating than for over-communicating 4) Leaders should adjust their communication patterns by communicating more, even if it leads to the (relatively minor) risk of being seen as communicating too much: journals.aom.org/doi/full/10… (paywall sorry). Research shows that when we switch tasks, it takes an average of 9.5 minutes to get back to a productive state, losing as much as 25 minutes of concentration. Workers typically switch tasks 15 times a day. Here's some helpful advice on using the Pareto principle (20% of effort leads to 80% of results) to get more value out of our days: medium.com/management-matter… By Tobias Charles on @Medium

After being made a Knight, Billy Connolly wrote to Eric Idle: “Dear Eric, As you rightly observed, I was knighted this morning, and, in my new position as Knight of the Realm, I have decided that I will no longer squander my good time by hanging out with scruff like you. So you can fuck off.” Eric responded on Twitter: “Sir Billy sent me a personal message to fuck off now he is a Knight. Very honored to accept.” Love and respect always go hand in hand.

Good presentation @WOMADfestival with @originalOne1984 & colleague talking about #realtimedeepfake. Lots of tech out there. Problem is we humans rely on quick pattern matching to make decisions, so we are ALWAYS going to follow easy cognitive solution - visuals really compelling
