I defended my dissertation in July of 2016, a few months prior to the Trump v Hilary election.
It was HARD.
Folks dissertating or writing a first book now, I want to offer a few reflections:

Working with chat gpt like "can you reformat all these citations" and its like "yeah here you go" and then I'm like "did you make any mistakes?" and its like "yeah here are the ones that are wrong" lol
Kudos to @lopez_wd on being recognized with the 2024 Excellence in Teaching Award at @umichsph. His dedication to empowering students and tailoring his approach to their diverse needs has truly resonated with our students and helped create an exceptional educational experience.

A good idea so they can see how much you edit your own papers before submission?
Or a bad idea?
I think we need to do a better job of appreciating amateur art. Nothing beats a poem, painting, toast, or song from or with a friend or family member that is personal and specific.
"Sustainability simplified" from @StephenPorder
1) Don't sweat the small stuff
2) Next car: electric
3) Next central heating: heat pump
4) Next stove: electric
5) Next water heater: heat pump
6) Solar panels if you can
7) Fly less
8) Eat less red meat

Krill experts!!! is it possible to identify the species from this pic? Huge amounts washed up on beaches from a big swarm, north shores of Timor Leste (~8°S 126°E).
I have a former student who is looking for online resources/writing groups/ virtual communities that’ll be super informative and supportive for newer writers coming into publishing that know very little about the whole querying, subbing, etc. process. Does anybody have good recs?
