A #NERC funded @StirUni-led study into the impact of people & the natural environment on #freshwater biodiversity, disease, genetics & ecosystem resilience

We are launching the first ever #PASSDAY21!
You want to contribute to a collaborative project aiming towards a better understanding of pond soundscapes? On June 21st go to your local pond, get your hydrophone out and record the #freshwater#soundscape!
@abr_eco
An amazing amount of work went into this, great to see the results developing. Faecal indicator organisms are in almost every lake/pond studied, but the drivers of e.coli hotspots aren't clear.
And finally... But truely brilliantly. Our last speaker of the afternoon is @ZarahPattison with her mega-innovative work on the detection of faecal pollution in small #lakes as part of @HydroscapeNERC. 800 sediment cores collected... Wow... Nice work Zarah!!! #epcnponds21
Just a few days left to apply for this paid summer internship opportunity: environmental-research.ox.ac…. Aimed at undergraduate students interested in freshwater ecology and global change #epcnponds2021 @BES_AquaEco
The best conference talks I give are always the night before when I'm trying to get to sleep... and I inevitably forget all the things I want to remember. So I'll see everyone tomorrow at #epcnponds21 for an inferior talk on ponds and lakes!
Our researchers are sharing our freshwater connectivity results at the @europeanponds conference. Spoiler alert; connectivity can be a double-edged sword!
REQUEST: #Himalayanbalsam seeds are ripe for the picking at the mo. If you are going for a walk this week and pass a stand of this plant could you collect some seeds for me please? Can pay for postage too. Would be great to get seeds from various locations. @AlanLaw_@NWillby
A nice blog making use of freshwater data collected/collated for the Hydroscape project:
Relating habitat age to species richness

We've had our first project paper accepted!! 🍾 😀
Lead by @AlanLaw_, we test the effectiveness of aquatic plants as surrogates for wider biodiversity. Further updates coming soon....
