People who can’t teach Thelema teach occultism. Youll find them teaching about the 4 worlds, qabalistic color coding, ritual directions & attributions, and things you generally can look up in 777 instead of Thelema itself.

When Thelema as a culture is not aware of its own first principles, it drifts toward reflecting the current over-culture's values and beliefs rather than its own. The ideas remain but their meanings are unconsciously redefined to match prevailing cultural norms.

A solar doctrine is its own center of gravity, with orienting truths that resist being bent by current fad or fashion. Without these first principles, Thelema runs adrift and says nothing the culture hasnt already said to itself... It becomes ikigai with pentagrams.

This is one core reason for the importance of clearly establishing the first principles of Thelema. Without this axis as a firm foundation, the center will naturally be filled in by culture, by consensus, and by what is socially expedient rather than what is Thelemic.

Attainment in Thelema is annihilation, not accumulation. Initiation is not the hoarding of grades, titles, and magical implements, because nothing possess-able can survive annihilation. Attainment is the radical opening of the soul to the divine of the Angel and the Abyss.

So if anything, Thelemic attainment is primarily a dissolution of boundaries, a destruction of identity in a way. Crowley made 2 spiritual experiences the center of his system of enlightenment; not stages of knowledge or power but crises of encounter with an overpowering divine.

Thelema isnt therapeutic, its initiatory. Its not meant to make you “feel better” or validate you as you are now. It is meant to initiate: to tear down old beliefs & perspectives, to expose oneself to unfamiliar conditions, and through trial/ordeal to become who you really are.
