Trying to get more into posting my thoughts while I have the time during the offseason and hopefully engage more with people who may share similar, or different, thoughts on a topic.
One coaching thought that has been on my mind lately that I think gets lost at times, is that we have to meet the player where they’re at and understand the message that they need to hear at that time. All players deserve to hear the truth, no matter how hard it may be at the time.
Our job as coaches is to explain it in a way that the player will understand and comprehend, and then put the plan in place together on how we will continue to get them better. Full clarity, full confidence in the plan.
The only way to know what message your player needs to hear is by connecting with that player and knowing what is important to them. Know their why.
The best coaches have the best relationships with their groups. If the player knows you have their best interest in mind, the “difficult” conversations become a lot easier.
Something I strive to improve upon every season and everyday.
