When is it the right time to show emotion in the dugout as a leader of the team? Good emotion or bad emotion. When things happen on the field, everyone in the dugout will look to the manager, pitching coach, or hitting coach to see how they react. What tactics or ways have you figured out on how to not “ride the roller coaster” of the ups and downs?

Excerpt from the book, The Next Conversation, by Jefferson Fisher The way I’m thinking about this is all about learning how to simplify a message. We can deliver a message to someone but if they do not understand that message, it’s just wasted words. Doing the work ahead of time to simplify the message as much as possible makes all the difference in delivering understanding, and ultimately connecting with that person.

Trying to get more into posting my thoughts while I have the time during the offseason and hopefully engage more with people who may share similar, or different, thoughts on a topic. One coaching thought that has been on my mind lately that I think gets lost at times, is that we have to meet the player where they’re at and understand the message that they need to hear at that time. All players deserve to hear the truth, no matter how hard it may be at the time. Our job as coaches is to explain it in a way that the player will understand and comprehend, and then put the plan in place together on how we will continue to get them better. Full clarity, full confidence in the plan. The only way to know what message your player needs to hear is by connecting with that player and knowing what is important to them. Know their why. The best coaches have the best relationships with their groups. If the player knows you have their best interest in mind, the “difficult” conversations become a lot easier. Something I strive to improve upon every season and everyday.

Staying in the moment. Especially on the biggest stage in the world. Stay in the moment, stay grounded, trust the work you’ve done. Keep your self talk positive and focused on the task at hand

Huge play from Game 3 that could have changed a lot. Risky from Clement to tag in the situation, but great awareness from Barger to run hard all the way through home plate in case it was an out at 2nd. 3rd Base coach letting him know right away to go hard all the way through in case he was tagging from first. Great play from all parties involved that could have gone a different way. Pages aware of the runners tagging from first and fired a strike to give them a chance. Always teach runners to run hard through home plate!
