#OnThisDay 1941 The Luftwaffe dropped four high explosive bombs on Dublin, the North Strand being worst hit. 28 people died, 90 injured & 300 houses ruined. One quarter of the deaths came from the Browne family, when seven members were killed in the blast. #Ireland #History #WW2

30 May 1943 | SS-Hauptsturmführer Dr Josef Mengele oficially became the camp doctor of the Gypsy Family Camp (Familienzigeunerlager - sector BIIe) in Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp. He was almost 32 years old [The date comes from his transfer order, yet, he arrived at Auschwitz some time later). Today, he is most known because of the criminal experiments he conducted on twins. Twins were subjected to all imaginable specialist medical examinations. They were also photographed, plaster casts were made of their jaws and teeth, and they were toe- and fingerprinted. As soon as these examinations were finished, they were killed with lethal injections of phenol to the heart so that the next phase of the experimentation could begin: autopsies and the comparative analysis of their internal organs. --- Participation of German doctors in criminal medical experiments in concentration camps is a drastic example of betrayal of medical ethics. 31 May 1941. Luftwaffe mistakenly bombed Dublin in the neutral Ireland. 4 bombs fell in the North Strand area killing 28 people. After the war, the West German government accepted responsibility for the raid and paid £327,000 in compensation (£7.8 million now).

#OnThisDay 1906 Michael Davitt, founder of the Irish National Land League, Fenian arms-smuggler & politician died. Davitt organised tenant farmers in Ireland & ultimately ended the landlord system with tenants able to purchase their land with government loans. #Ireland #History
