Today, staff from the Izaña ICOS station, located at the historic Izaña Observatory (@AEMET_izana), carried out mandatory leak tests in the laboratory and along the intake line. These tests are performed every 6 months to ensure the high data quality that characterises @ICOS_RI.

The Earth’s energy imbalance has reached a new high. In a stable climate, incoming energy from the sun is about the same as the amount of outgoing energy. But increasing greenhouse gas concentrations have upset the equilibrium.

Late last year, the @WMO #GAW programme published new guidelines for measuring carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide.
Experiences in setting up the ICOS network and Atmosphere station specifications fed into the final guidelines.

GHG measurements at El Arenosillo station (ARN, @intaespana), part of @ICOS_RI, require well-maintained sampling lines at 10, 50 and 100 m. On 14 Dec 2025, maintenance work and replacement of protection systems were carried out.
