The IFT represents 103,000 teachers and PSRPs throughout Illinois, faculty and staff at community colleges and universities, public employees and retirees.
Libraries are gateways to opportunity, lifelong learning, and stronger communities. They level the playing field by giving everyone access to knowledge, no matter their background or income.
And now, the new Illinois Reliable Information Sources offers all residents:
📖 E-books & research databases
🛠️ Tools for students, college learners, job seekers, entrepreneurs, and families
ℹ️ Resources including health info, test prep, business tools, manuals, and more
Libraries are essential infrastructure. They support education, workforce development, and personal growth. When we invest in them and expand access, we invest in people.

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has proposed sweeping changes to Part 50 teacher evaluation rules that represent a fundamental shift away from educators and toward unilateral district control.
Our position is that evaluation systems are subjective and therefore work best when they are collaborative, aligned to research-based best practices, and have checks and balances in place to mitigate bias and harm.
In Chicago, the mayor just showed that taxing big tech creates a windfall.
In Springfield, the Governor and our general assembly had the chance to do the same but left $3B on the table. Naperville, Rockford, west Frankfurt (so?),
Chicago schools are all facing cuts in a state with a 1 trillion dollar GDP.
We have real solutions. We have real sources of revenue. We need the legislature to reconvene and treat our students’ education like the megaproject it ought to be.

IFT and @ctulocal1 President Stacy Davis Gates signed on to this open letter from educational union leaders to governors, urging them to reject the federal voucher tax credit program, which is a clear attempt to intentionally weaken and privatize public schools.
We know from overwhelming evidence that these voucher programs do not improve student outcomes, but they do divert public tax dollars from public schools.

👀 Big congratulations to Halle Morrison, Assistant Professor at Malcolm X College and @CCCTU_Local1600 member, for being selected to join the STEMSEAS (STEM Student Experiences Aboard Ships) expedition! 🚢
This opportunity is a win for her students & college as well. The knowledge she will bring back will help open doors for more community college students to explore careers in science.
We love to see it!
Thank you, @GovTinaKotek, for putting OR's students and public schools first by rejecting the federal voucher scheme. When a voucher program conflicts with a state's values, leaders say no. OR did.
States like NY and IL should be next. Public dollars belong in public schools.

The legislative session may be over but our fight isn't. We will continue advocating for full funding because that's what our students and communities deserve.
Federal funding cuts combined with inadequate state funding will continue to cause a strain on our schools and institutions. Our students need us to do better from East St. Louis to Waukegan and everywhere in between.
