The IFT represents 103,000 teachers and PSRPs throughout Illinois, faculty and staff at community colleges and universities, public employees and retirees.
IFT and @ctulocal1 President Stacy Davis Gates signed on to this open letter from educational union leaders to governors, urging them to reject the federal voucher tax credit program, which is a clear attempt to intentionally weaken and privatize public schools.
We know from overwhelming evidence that these voucher programs do not improve student outcomes, but they do divert public tax dollars from public schools.

👀 Big congratulations to Halle Morrison, Assistant Professor at Malcolm X College and @CCCTU_Local1600 member, for being selected to join the STEMSEAS (STEM Student Experiences Aboard Ships) expedition! 🚢
This opportunity is a win for her students & college as well. The knowledge she will bring back will help open doors for more community college students to explore careers in science.
We love to see it!
Thank you, @GovTinaKotek, for putting OR's students and public schools first by rejecting the federal voucher scheme. When a voucher program conflicts with a state's values, leaders say no. OR did.
States like NY and IL should be next. Public dollars belong in public schools.

Federal funding cuts combined with inadequate state funding will continue to cause a strain on our schools and institutions. Our students need us to do better from East St. Louis to Waukegan and everywhere in between.

As politicians in Washington are taking away food for children, stripping resources from schools, and weakening access to healthcare, this @CTULocal1 and IFT member is reminding us what’s really at stake: our children and their right to thrive.
Instead, this administration prioritizes erasing Black history from our museums, attacking civil rights, and disenfranchising Black voters in the south. This investigation is just another way to chip at our progress and resilience. We will keep fighting.
In response to federal investigations and a subpoena of CPS leadership over racial equity and LGBTQ protections, a group of Chicago students are standing up for Chicago’s values: academic freedom, inclusive education, and honest history.
@CTULocal1
At a time when books are being challenged nationwide and resources for public schools are under threat, their message is clear: our schools need investment, not political attacks and extremist investigations.
