We are horrified by the brutal killing of 15-year-old Kawsar Bashar in Baghdad after reportedly refusing a forced marriage proposal from her cousin.
So-called “honour” crimes are acts of violence against women and girls — not tradition, not culture, and never justified.

Those responsible, including anyone celebrating or inciting this violence, must be held accountable. States must take stronger action to end impunity, protect girls and women, and challenge the harmful norms that enable these crimes.
