My theory as to why there's so many random characters in Mario Kart World is that they're mostly background characters and they will be unlockable in the open world element, maybe you have to find them in the world to unlock them.

While I will always miss the classic sprite art style of the M&L games, I am more than hyped to see the series getting new life on the Switch. It does look really good, and faithful to the aesthetic of the originals.
