3/3 Protecting children 🧒 is everyone's responsibility. As a miner, parent, community leader or government official, take action today.
Keep children away from mine sites, support their education and speak out against child labour.
2/3 ⛏️Mining can expose children to serious risks, including dangerous working conditions, injuries and harmful chemicals such as mercury.
🧒Every child deserves a safe environment, access to education and the opportunity to reach their full potential.
1/3 🧵On this #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour, @planetGOLD_UG reaffirms its commitment to a responsible artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector where children belong in school, not at mine sites.
📹Meet Monica, Josephine & Esther, three women miners shaping the future of responsible artisanal & small-scale gold mining in Uganda. With support from the @planetGOLD_UG project, women are advancing leadership & mining practices that protect communities.

À l’occasion de la conférence “Mining the Connections”, une session dédiée au projet planetGOLD a réuni les équipes de Côte d’Ivoire, Guinée et Burkina Faso.
@planetGOLD_Zim joined the nation in commemorating a belated #WorldHealthDay under the theme:"Together for Health.Stand with Science."
We stand with science every day by tackling a hidden health crisis, mercury use in artisanal gold mining (ASGM).

3/3 @planetGOLD_Zim is working with #ASGM communities to reduce #mercury use & adopt cleaner, more efficient mercury free gold recovery methods. Resulting in artisanal small-scale gold mining that works with the environment and not against it.
2/3 At our stand, Project Manager @nmutonhori highlighted a critical but often overlooked link: climate change & mercury-free gold mining.
"How we mine gold today shapes our climate tomorrow. Mercury-free technologies are not just about safer mining ,they are climate action."
🧵1/3 On #WorldEnvironmentDay,@planetGOLD_Zim joined the global movement ,celebrating nature & taking urgent action for our planet.
Global theme: "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."
National theme: "A Plastic Free Environment is Possible – Play Your Part."
From PPE distribution to environmental awareness messages across Kitumbi Kayonza mine site, #WorldEnvironmentDay@planetGOLD_UG reinforced the fact that protecting miners' health goes hand in hand with protecting the environment.
#WED2026
2/2 Protecting the environment starts with action!
As part of the commemoration, @planetGOLD_UG distributed 100 tree seedlings & led a tree-planting exercise at the mine site, encouraging miners to restore degraded areas and contribute to restoring the ecosystems.
#WED2026
1/2 To mark #WorldEnvironmentDay, @planetGOLD_UG joined artisanal & small-scale gold miners at Kitumbi Kayonza mine site to promote safer, & environmentally responsible mining practices. Miners were sensitised on site rehabilitation, PPE use, & mercury-free gold processing.
✔️ Work with mining communities to design and deploy processing systems that eliminate mercury and other chemical discharges
✔️ Promote, design and implement mining and tailings management to minimize environmental footprint and impacts on deforestation, biodiversity & pollution
As communities across the globe commemorate #WorldEnvironmentDay amid record-breaking demand for gold, it provides an opportunity to reflect on some of the practical steps that can be taken to deploy more environmentally responsible artisanal and small-scale gold mining. 🧵👇
