Most writers are told their characters are "flat."
They add more backstory.
More description.
More traits.
The character gets more decorated.
They don't get more real.
Because the problem was never a lack of information.
It was a lack of wound. 🧵

Both answers are valid.
Both produce unforgettable fiction.
What's not valid: a character who ends the story exactly as they began it.
That's not a story. That's a sequence of events with a name attached.
