🧠Neuroscientist, 🖖sci fi geek, 🐱somewhat-crazy cat lady. I run the Sensorimotor Neurophysiology Lab at Indiana University Bloomington. hjblock@indiana.edu
🧠Want to start a #PhD in sensorimotor #neuroscience in Fall 2026? Our NIH- and NSF-funded lab @IUBloomington uses human behavior and noninvasive brain stimulation to study motor learning and perception. More info: blocklab.net/openings.html or hjblock@iu.edu. Deadline is Dec. 15.
Find out how the brain deals with conflicting cues in this #ArticleinPress, Timing of responses to gradual and abrupt #visuo-proprioceptive cue conflict with and without feedback (Reshma Babu et al. @IUBloomington):

🚨It's published! 🚨Our results support highly-simplified-model "B", if you're wondering. The Somatosensory Cortex and Body Representation: Updating the Motor System during a Visuoproprioceptive Cue Conflict jneurosci.org/content/45/32/…
My research group is looking for a postdoctoral fellow to study the principles of coadaptation between human-human and human-adaptive agent pairs. Ad below. Please retweet!
Anyone who teaches undergrad motor control and learning: are you willing to share syllabus, labs, or assignments with me? I'm teaching an honors section in the spring for the first time! We have lots of pre-PT/OT students and I'm using this book: amazon.com/Motor-Control-Tra…
Hey #sfn2024 attendees, if you're interested in visuo-proprioceptive hand perception and recalibration: Come see our poster! Tuesday afternoon, board H40. 👉👈🧠
Hey we are hiring! Would love to have some colleagues at Emory in BME working in sensorimotor systems and related technologies that cross the basic/clinical divide!
(3/4) ...the primary somatosensory cortex (S1). These updates are proprioceptive, having not yet been integrated with visual cues through interaction with high-level posterior parietal regions. This might provide advantages in terms of faster updates, for example, because...
(4/4) ...multisensory integration likely adds processing time. Research seeking to manipulate motor control via multisensory perception should therefore consider the parallel unisensory and multisensory pathways that affect the motor system.
📢New preprint! The brain may handle visuo-proprioceptive cue conflicts differently for a dynamic hand undergoing visuomotor adaptation than for a static hand. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Also: is visual recalibration an artifact of subject laziness? It seems not. We included groups 5 and 6 specifically to answer this question. We have been calling it "the JT experiment". 😄 @tsay_jonathan
📢Multiple tenured and tenure-track faculty positions in neuroscience of aging and CNS diseases at Indiana University-Bloomington 📢

For decades, Robert Sainburg pushed against the conventional wisdom about how the brain controls the body. Today, his research is improving treatments for people who survive strokes. Learn more ow.ly/CvIW50SzVcf
Oh never mind, I'm glad I checked the math. It totals up to 394, not 396. 🤦♀️ I told chat GPT and it responded with "you're right!" and another table that also claimed to total up to 396... but is actually 397. Has anyone else tried this?
