“Nung nag-separate ways kami, ang nilu-look up ko pa ring music is ‘yung sa kanila.” – Zild Benitez (@zildbenitez) Even while he was forging his own path as a solo artist, #IVOFSPADES (@IVOFSPADES) bassist and vocalist #Zild admits that he always anticipated the music that his former bandmates put out during that period, and secretly wished to collaborate with them out of a deep-seated respect and longtime admiration for them. “Lagi akong tinatanong sa interviews, ‘Sino ang gusto mong ka-collab?’ Realistically, sila talaga. Literal na kung ano lang ‘yung gusto nating gawing music.’” – Blaster Silonga (@Bsilonga) When the reunited #IVOFSPADES (@IVOFSPADES) reconvened in the studio to craft what would become the band’s comeback album ‘Andalucia,’ they made sure that the only pressure they would feel was from themselves, and not involve any outside input apart from their co-producer Brian Lotho. “Para wala ‘yung halong tunog na hindi tunog kami,” he continues. “Parang ‘yung pressure na lang [was], ‘Sana magustuhan ni Zild.’” The result was an album that reflected maturity and freedom. “Hinayaan na lang namin ipanganak ‘yung kanta kung paano siya ipanganak. Tapos pina-realize nila — mga kasama ko nung pandemic — na gusto ko pala talaga magbanda.” – Badjao De Castro After #IVOFSPADES (@IVOFSPADES) disbanded in 2020, drummer #BadjaoDeCastro joined Party Pace, an indie supergroup of established musicians from the likes of Sandwich and Chicosci, with whom he spent most of his time post-breakup. But he would still make it a point to watch the solo shows of his former bandmates as often as he could, so he could watch them with pride.
