The Ikonen group is interested in the cell biology of cholesterol and related lipids and has developed tools to visualize their distribution and traffic.
🎉Thrilled to share our most recent work on how the lipid environment finely regulates the Golgi V-ATPase. A big THANK YOU to everyone in the Ikonen lab @IkonenLab @MiesvdStoel @rollingmeow, and our collaborators.

New paper from our lab on how boosting homozygous knock-in efficiency enables robust generation of human auxin-inducible degron cells, by @ShiqianLi1 et al. in @GenomeBiology 🥳
Excited to share that my last paper at Ikonen Lab @IkonenLab was finally published at Genome Biology. It is interesting journey and thank to the great supports from friends, collaborators and my supervisor Elina Ikonen. @MiesvdStoel @rollingmeow @RaivioTaneli@_YZlab@OlkkonenVesalink.springer.com/article/10…
Happy to share our new work on human cell engineering with an improved version of auxin-inducible degron system. A great collaboration between IkonenLab @IkonenLab and Taneli Lab @RaivioTaneli in University of Helisinki. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Out in @NatureComms our fine collaboration with @Rachid_Thiam and Ilpo Vattulainen on how cholesterol esters form supercooled lipid
droplets whose nucleation is facilitated by
triacylglycerols. nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
Our work at the 21st International Conference on Systems Biology (ICSB). Intense days of exciting talks, ideas and inspiring discussions. Also my first poster designed according to #betterposter, with a magnetically attached QR code. @IkonenLab, #betterposter, #ICSB2022.
Out in @CR_AACR our study showing that in operable #PancreaticCancer, regions distant from malignant cells already display proteomic changes related to lipid metabolism that affect prognosis and may be pharmacologically targeted.

Excited to share our collaborative effort on the role of seipin at ER-mitochondrial contact sites, now out in Cell Reports! cell.com/cell-reports/fullte…
STEMM Retreat is happening: The first day has been full of scientific interactions in presentations, workshop, and poster session - And most importantly we're finally meeting each other in person!
@HelsinkiUniMed@helsinkiuni
Very nice 2nd day of the @Endo_Connect kick-off meeting, great lectures of @JKlumperman and Kristiina @Ikonenlab, great opportunities for the PhDs to set up collaborations. @researchumcg, tomorrow training in communication, data management, seminar of our Dean Marian Joëls @umcg

New release fresh from our lab revealing how ORP2 controls FAK activation and LDL-cholesterol plasma membrane delivery by promoting bidirectional cholesterol/PI(4,5)P2 exchange between late and recycling endosomes! @HelsinkiUniMed@STEMMProgramembopress.org/doi/full/10.15…
Delighted to share our mini review by Prof. Ikonen and me @IkonenLab on intracellular cholesterol flow between membranes. The mesmerizing lipid cholesterol is so well known, but its behavior still remains largely unknown. @Dev_Cell. authors.elsevier.com/c/1d4xe…
