MP Diego Martin North/East since 1991, Resident of Maraval, Deputy Political Leader PNM, Citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, BSc & MSc Eng, MSc Finance, LLM, LLM
How is it possible for a burst main on one of the busiest main roads in the country (Saddle Road, Maraval) to be left to continue to leak, destroying the road and causing severe traffic congestion, FOR OVER ONE YEAR, despite NUMEROUS complaints?! Only under this UNC Government
6 weeks ago, I asked that the Minister of Foreign Affairs be referred to the Privileges Committee for misleading the Parliament about a CARICOM Retreat. Neither the Speaker nor the Deputy Speaker responded to my request, so it automatically lapsed yesterday. Is this Democracy??
Every 12 months the Parliament must bring its business to an end. When a session ends, all matters on the parliamentary agenda are terminated, including any matters before the Privileges Committee. If a matter is not dealt with by the end of a session, it dies without being heard
In Oct 2025, the UNC published the Review of the Economy 2025. On page 190 of that document, it confirmed that after positive growth of 2.5% in 2024, the economy declined by -0.8% in 2025. Yet, 7 months later, that minus sign for 2025 has somehow turned into a plus sign. How?
After 3 consecutive years of positive economic growth under the PNM, the IMF has found that our growth rate is slipping and inflation and the public debt are rising. Yet in the face of this negative assessment, the UNC claims that T&T is doing well since 2025. They have to be MAD
This is our economy under the PM and the UNC. We had 3 years of increasing economic growth from 2022 to 2024, with 2.5% positive growth in 2024. As soon as they came in, the economy took a nosedive and contracted by -0.8%
The Government's decision to close the domestic lounge at Piarco is nonsensical. Persons travelling to Tobago will now have to line up with international passengers at security checkpoints, creating severe congestion. Elderly and disabled passengers will now have to climb stairs
It now appears obvious to me that the plan may be to lease the space currently used for the domestic departure lounge to a third party for another purpose, regardless of the adverse consequences for persons travelling to Tobago
The CSO has reported that economic growth slowed in the first 9 months of 2025, to 0.2%. This is a far cry from the alleged growth of 1.5% for 2025 that the Minister of Finance gave the IMF earlier this year. It is likely therefore that growth for 2025 will be zero or negative
Under the Landlord Surcharge legislation, anyone who collects rent is defined as a Landlord. The penalty for not registering as a Landlord is a fine of $250,000 and 3 years jail. This penalty applies to everyone whether the rent is $1,000 or $20,000 a month. How is that a "win"?
The PM announced today that private pensions will now be tax free. She didn't admit that most such pensions are less than $7,500 a month, so they are ALREADY TAX FREE, as are NIS pensions, or that the UNC previously promised that public sector pensions would be tax free as well
I submitted a request to the Speaker today, for the Minister of Foreign Affairs be referred to the Privileges Comittee, for misleading the Parliament about a recent Caricom meeting, based on statements in a letter sent to the T&T PM by the present Chairman of Caricom (attached)
In light of the recent tragic death of a young girl at Pigeon Point, caused by a jet ski operator, I submitted an urgent question to Parliament, asking what immediate action Government is taking to regulate the use of this type of pleasure craft. My question was not allowed
I raised the issue of terrible water shortages in my constituency 2 weeks ago. Instead of telling the Parliament what he planned to do to fix the problem, the Minister of Public Utilities threw a tantrum. I've filed the matter again. Let's see if he answers properly this time
A proper, honest analysis of why so many businesses in TT are closing down is essential. Many business owners say that the increasing shortage of foreign exchange, retrenchment of thousands of workers who consume basic items plus lack of Government spending are the major reasons
Several areas in my constituency, such as Maraval, St James and Paramin, have had no water supply for the last 8 months. I raised this serious matter in Parliament yesterday and the Minister of Public Utilities just screamed at me, tried to blame the PNM, and offered no solution
For months, there have been terrible traffic jams in Maraval due to the bad condition of Saddle Road as a result of WASA leaks. It takes hours to get home now in the afternoon with traffic backed up all the way to the Savannah. This is the worst I have seen in 34 years as the MP
I raised the matter of the awful condition of Saddle Road in Maraval in Parliament on Friday night. The Minister of Works claimed that I should have addressed this while I was Government, completely ignoring the fact that maintenance of the Road abruptly stopped on May 1, 2025
It is an extreme form of gaslighting (psychological manipulation) for a UNC Government Minister to insinuate that the PNM Government did not take the necessary action to prevent Dana Seetahal's tragic death, when in fact the UNC was in Government in 2014 when she was murdered
