Revelling in that post-reading glow and can’t sleep yet. Whoops. But finishing a book feels SO GOOD. No regrets.

My copy of my book ‘The Crystal Tree’ disappeared from my bookshelf the other day. Turns out one of my sisters stole it to take to work and read on her break. I feel so happy and authorly right now!

It’s so fun meeting other booklovers in the wild. My physiotherapist loves fantasy even more than I do, and half our sessions are spent recommending each other books and authors to check out, or geeking out over books that we’ve both read. It’s great!

Sometimes, no matter how much I love what I’m working on, the only thing that gets me going is to set a timer. Something about having that ticking clock gets me into gear faster than anything else I know.

I’m in need of some recommendations. What writing music should I be checking out? I need to shake up my usual albums and playlists. Any suggestions?

I have so many plans for productivity, endless to-do lists, and goals galore. There’s so much I want to do, it can be tough remembering that taking a break and looking after myself is important too.

Sometimes it feels like I’m stuck in an endless cycle of editing and editing and editing, and never writing anything new. I guess that will teach me to draft so many books without bothering to do anything with all their rough drafts. Writing first drafts is just so good though!

What book didn’t you expect to like, but ended up enjoying immensely. For me, it’s Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley. I don’t normally like contemporary romances, but this book is funny, heartwarming, and features a bookstore. What’s not to love?

Sometimes I have to remind myself that not every writing session has to be the best ever. Sometimes just writing down one idea to remember, or brainstorming for five minutes, or reading through a page or so is enough.

How do you stay on top of your reading list when there are so many good books to read? I have so many books on my shelf that I need to get around to reading, but there never seems to be enough time to read them all.

Weekends: Time to fit in some extra writing, or time to take a rest and decompress after the hecticness of the week?

I may have stayed up until 2 in the morning reading, and I regret nothing. NOTHING, I tell you.

There is something so special about reading a book written by a friend or acquaintance. It adds an extra layer to the reading experience. Plus, it’s just cool to know such awesome authors who write such amazing things!

One of my favourite writing soundtracks is from the Spider-Man Playstation game. It’s epic, and poignant, and perfect for immersing myself in for long periods of time while I’m working on my book.

What is your favourite book to read when you’re in a reading slump? For me, it’s always going to be The Blue Castle by L. M. Montgomery. Doesn’t matter what my mood is, or how bad my slump, I am always down to read that book.

I always love the idea of bookmarks, having a special, decorated strip of paper that won’t damage the book and holds my place. But when it comes down to it, I’m always going to use pens, receipts, phones, and post-it notes instead.

I try to pretend that I love all parts of the writing process the same, but let’s be honest here, editing is simply not the same as hammering out that first draft and feeling the rush of raw creativity as I mould a glorious mess of a book.

You know you’re tired when your fingers forget how to splel, or write words in order the correct, or simply put in the wrong pineapple. At that point, it’s probably better to close the computer for a while and take a nap.

"You will never find time for anything. If you want time you must make it. ~ Charles Buxton" I'm really feeling this quote right now. There's never any time to write unless I'm actively hunting it out. Life gets so busy sometimes.

The act of getting started is always the hardest for me. Whether it’s going to the gym or opening my manuscript, I struggle to begin. But once I’ve made a start, everything becomes a little easier and I find I can do so much more than I originally thought.
