Röbynn Europe, a Black woman and former personal training manager at Equinox, was awarded $11.25 million after a jury found she was fired due to race and gender discrimination.
Between 2018 and 2019, she was terminated after being late 47 times over about 10 months. Equinox claimed it was an attendance issue, but Europe presented evidence of a hostile work environment, racist and sexist comments from colleagues, and inconsistent enforcement of rules for non-Black employees.
A federal jury in New York sided with her in May 2023, awarding $1.25 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages. This is what accountability looks like! 👏🏾
