having spent most of my life in Paris and only recently moved back to KL, i’ve been complaining that this city needs a proper french cheesemonger … and someone finally did it !! yesterday i visited « Fromage » in BSC and finally found the types of cheeses i grew up eating. real, alive, unpasteurised, funky, and soulful. for ages i’ve been searching every high end grocery store to find imported cheese only for it to be pasteurised (ew gross) … finding a proper unpasteurised french cheese was literally impossible until now. the newly opened shop is run by a group of guys from Paris and we ended up chatting in french for a bit. they let me try a bunch of cheeses, including two different comtés aged for 18 and 30 months. the cheesemonger kept insisting i should go for the younger one because the 30-month was stronger, slightly bitter and not for everyone. i tried both and said i preferred the 30-month because the 18-month wasn’t fruity or complex enough for me … he laughed and replied « ok, now i really believe you lived in France !! » i left with a brie de melun, a brie aux truffes, the 30-month Comté, and the feeling that a tiny piece of my soul i left behind in France had finally found its way back to me 🥹🤍
