Spot rates continue their climb in both the InTek Intermodal Index (III) and truckload. The III is up ( 1.1%) for the 10th straight week, narrowing its annual gap to 1.5%.
Truckload is 17.3% yearly after a 0.8% weekly gain. Diesel is down the 5th straight week to $5.21.

We don't typically lead our weekly InTek Intermodal Index (III) ⤵️ with truck, but this week deserves it. Truckload spot rates shot up 9.2% weekly - the biggest jump this cycle. Intermodal spot rates gained for the 9th straight week ( 0.9%). Diesel fell 3.1% to $5.35 a gallon.

The case for switching from truckload to intermodal shipping is stronger now than ever. Truckload rates are soaring while intermodal rates remain stable, creating a historic price gap. Intermodal reliability has also dramatically improved, making it a more attractive option.

In spite of a tick down, the freight market remains strong.
That's from the May Logistics Managers Index (LMI), released today, which reads near a 4-year high at 69.5 after a 0.4 drop from April. Transportation Prices set a new record, though inventory slowed.
