A sad week in some respects but exciting in others as a 20 year old commercial cider orchard that we had been letting out has run its course, the apples are no longer wanted meaning it is out of contract, so we’ve taken it back in hand. Instead of pulling all the trees out we’ve left 25% of them standing, in 24 metre alleys. We will grow crops between the trees as part of an agroforestry system. There’s some ground prep to be done over the coming months before we plant wheat between the alleys in the autumn. (Prepared for some flack about this from people who might not understand the full picture - happy to answer questions!)
