Esther Etherington’s journey in golf is one of resilience, positivity, and purpose. After overcoming significant challenges throughout her life—including being born at 26 weeks, being blind in her right eye, and having a lung removed at age five—Esther found a passion for golf and used it to inspire those around her. Her leadership and impact in her local community helped earn her recognition as a 2022 First Tee Scholar, and this summer, she will continue her journey in the game as an intern at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club through the USGA Pathways Launch program.
Announced last September, Pathways Launch is a paid internship program for undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate leadership, growth, and an interest in working in golf or sports. In addition to their summer placements across the golf industry, interns will also attend the U.S. Women’s Open from June 4–7 for career development programming and networking opportunities.
