Given the official adaptive use of the V3 for Artemis III, I’m going to repost my earlier inquiry if a docking port could be configured at the top of the nosecone of the V3. Before you comment about the header tank issue, it is possible to reengineer the position of the header tank to sit above the CH4 bulk head, still minimising slosh and not compromising balance. I’m not saying it is an easy fix but SpaceX have in the past, considered this very idea. From what we have learned about the Artemis III mission, I think this at least invites further discussion about the feasibility. Worst case scenario is they lose the starship upon reentry, that was going to happen anyway had they used a HLS Starship for the mission.

UPDATE 5.0: Artemis III (unofficial) infographic work-in-progress. The mystery is what the V3 will look like and where the docking port will be positioned.

For the first time doing these space infographics, I am at an impasse, where do I add the docking port? I’m going to do a poll, see what you think.
50% With flaps & dock on side
18% No flaps & dock on side
11% With flaps & dock on top
21% No flaps & dock on top

Of course Elon could just tell me. That would make things a lot easier.

Mystery indeed. How HLS can a Standard Starship be? I'd like to hope at this point that they are just stripping the flaps, heat shield and headers out and shoving a docking port on top.

Artemis III (unofficial) Starship V3 with docking port concept art. @elonmusk will SpaceX be looking at something like this for A3?

OK, so excluding the exact position of the docking port on the side, I think I have covered every scenario for Starship on Artemis III, and one of them is correct.

Disappointed to say the least. Sounds like the plan is even less than what was proposed here. Hopefully scheduling changes and allows for more test objectives.

Here is the crew for Artemis III, NASA Mission specialist, Andre Douglas; Mission specialist, Frank Rubio; Commander, Randy Bresnik and Pilot, Luca Parmitano (European Space Agency). Godspeed. My (unofficial) infographic illustrates the mission, though it does look like I’ll need to alter the Starship and Blue Moon slightly.

Just watching the NASA press announcement. Did I hear that correctly, is SpaceX using Starship V3 with a docking adapter attached for Artemis III? I know I copped some flack for this illustration, at this point, it looks like I just got the docking port in the wrong position (though this is not confirmed). Please correct me if I wrongly heard this. I am still watch the live broadcast so haven’t had time to rewatch that announcement from SpaceX.

I have started work on my Artemis III infographic. While working on the models, I had this side thought. Instead of potentially rushing to have an orbital test HLS Starship ready for Artemis III (obviously it will not need to be a fully functional lander), which will be disposed of after the mission, why not refit a current Block 3 with a forward pressure section and docking port. By then, you would think SpaceX will have performed several Starship catches, it’s a perfect opportunity to test its docking ability and add another catch test, no wasted components. What are your thoughts, do you think that this is something they have considered?

On your infographic, everything looks exactly the way we'd like to see it. The question is: what will reality bring?

These are so helpful. I really wish @NASAAdmin and team would use even more visuals like this when they give talks. It is easy to lose track of the discussion otherwise.
