SAWUBONA LEADERSHIP CONVERSATION: In today’s multi-generational workplace, it helps to know that receiving feedback without judgment opens trust across generations. A recent Korn Ferry survey showed the disconnect between generations. No surprise. But what was interesting is the boomer generation felt that they were very much connected to Gen Z because they clearly communicated. However Gen Z said, 'we don't feel connected to boomers'. That is because connection is not communication. It's about how I feel when I'm with you. Sharing this in honor of Amy Riley’s The Courage of a Leader podcast being given the 2026 Voice of Authority Award. courageofaleader.com/captiva… #Sawubona #Leadership #multigenerationalworkplace

YOUR MORNING RITUAL QUOTE: "Balance is not something you find, it’s something you create." -- Jana Kingsford It is normal to be thinking constantly or be triggered by everyday situations so, we need strategies that can help us be present, that can help us come back to a calm, centered place. It’s not about staying on center but being able to return to center when we’re thrown off. It’s the coming back that is important. Noticing that you’ve been thrown off balance and building the capacity to re-center each time will make it easier for your mind and body to do so naturally. Why? Because, physically and mentally, the feeling of being centered becomes more comfortable than being off-centered. Being grounded and centered becomes our new home base, our new way of being. We start to crave it. Learning how to meditate or to use the simple practice of 're-centering' will help you to come back to a calm, centered place when you've been thrown off balance. #wellbeing #worklifebalance

Like acceptance, forgiveness means not condoning what has happened and remaining in conflict but, rather, acknowledging it in a way that allows one to move into a positive future. How do you practice forgiveness? #SawubonaLeadership

“People are often watched but seldom seen.” Surveillance cameras and GPS trackers assure that “Big Brother is watching you.” Yet, most of us are ill-equipped to see into the heart of another.  #SawubonaLeadership

YOUR MORNING RITUAL QUOTE: "Always take some of the play, fun, freedom and wonder of the weekend into your week and your work." —Rasheed Ogunlaru Too often, as adults pressures replace play.  Many of us pursue jobs that undervalue and underuse our natural gifts. Instead of finding work where our gifts can flourish, we choose careers to support our families or buy a lifestyle. The phones we carry, the schools our children attend, or the clubs where we play golf become more visible than the passions within us. There is nothing wrong with wanting the best for your family, but if you truly want fulfillment --- I urge you to explore and use your genius as an integral part of your life at work and at play.  #SawubonaLeadership #wellbeing #wellness

One of the most powerful ways to unleash ideas, energy, and teamwork is to align every employee’s vision for their life with the company’s mission. Where will you start? #teamwork #SawubonaLeadership

REFLECTIONS ON THE WEEK: “Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.” – Carl Jung When we look within we are able to connect into and see our own uniqueness. Your gifts lie in your authentic or essential self. Each of us has a unique self, a set of inherent gifts that we were born to bring to the world.  When we listen to our heart, our gifts can lead us toward fulfilling careers, hobbies, or relationships.  Take some time today to reflect within -- into your heart -- to see what awakes. #SawubonaLeadership

YOUR MORNING RITUAL QUOTE: “Leadership is not just some empty formulas but establishing deep connection at soul levels through service, integrity, passion, perseverance and equanimity.”  --Amit Ray, Mindfulness Meditation for Corporate Leadership and Management Leadership is a calling. A calling to connect with your people. Deep connection happens when leaders adopt the practice of Sawubona Leadership. Its essence is found in a Zulu greeting and reply: Sawubona: I see you. Yebo Sawubona: I see you seeing me. Sawubona is an invitation to a deep witnessing and mutual presence— an intention to see each other for our gifts and our purpose in the world. When leaders approach their people with this spirit, a deeper level of connection, conversation, and community is possible. That deep level of connection is 'not just some empty formula', it is a deep witnessing of your people. It starts by recognizing that your people already are their best selves. See each one as intrinsically gifted in the way that they are. Then work to develop their whole person and create the opportunities and culture for each to live up to their highest potential. How can you take this idea into your connection with your people today? This week? #SawubonaLeadership #engagement #connection

SAWUBONA LEADERSHIP CONVERSATIONS: Like many of us, Sam tended to notice what others did wrong. She complained about what they were not doing and saw the glass half empty. Her frustrations with her team were a source of growing stress and anxiety. As we worked together, she began to understand that seeing the gifts of her people could ignite their performance and achieve success for her region. We worked to quiet her thinking mind so that she could listen to the intelligence of her heart. She discovered how to see the gifts of her team and align their passions with their bank's mission. As a result, rhe team was able to grow its book of business by 60% in 6 months and hit 150% of goals by year’s end. #SawubonaLeadership #productivity podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…
