To confirm the independent criminal bar is continuing to work at full capacity with our cadre of highly trained specialist criminal barristers prosecuting and defending all manner of criminal cases arriving into the Crown Court on top of case backlogs that by the start of 2024 had already scaled 23 year record highs.

@MoJGovUK to receive all the criminal court statistics for the quarter ending 31 March 2024 from that time and to begin detailed analysis immediately to last for nearly 3 months until publication. Only this month

@HMCTSgovuk published provisional courts data on “open caseload” to the end of April 2024, covering all 3 months of the first quarter and the first month of the second quarter 2024.
The general election was called around 4pm on Wednesday 22 May 2024.

@MoJGovUK updated this Tuesday 24 June 2024 to confirm that the release of its first quarter figures would go ahead today 27 June 2024. No explanation was given until after 10am today 27 June 2024 for the decision made at 643pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024 to cancel today’s 930am release date.
