Dear Black Community, I was outraged when President Trump shared an image depicting Michelle Obama as a monkey. I viewed that as offensive and wrong. But a UFC fighter calling Michelle Obama a man? That doesn’t trigger the same reaction from me. Why? Because the Obamas were among the most influential voices pushing the idea that gender identity can override biological sex. They helped normalize the belief that people can identify as a gender different from the one they were born as. So when the same framework gets applied in a way they may not like, I’m struggling to understand the outrage. You don’t get to tell the world that gender is fluid one day and then demand strict biological definitions the next. Whether you agree or disagree with that argument, these are the cultural rules that were put into motion. The Obamas helped make the bed. Now they’re lying in it.
